This year鈥檚 event was held for the first time on the Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) campus.

鈥淭his was the first year that the White Coat Ceremony was held as part of the [Macon and Joan Brock] Virginia Health Sciences due to the recent integration with EVMS,鈥 said Rachel Childs, Program Director for Medical Laboratory Science. 鈥淭his was a perfect way to celebrate the collaboration by having it on their campus.鈥

The program began with opening remarks from Harold Riethman, PhD, professor and chair of the School. Childs then welcomed students, faculty, family, and guests, setting the tone for a ceremony that highlighted both professional achievement and community support.

A total of 32 students were coated during the ceremony:

  • 3 students in Cytology, presented by Program Director Deborah Kryzaniak
  • 17 students in Medical Laboratory Science, presented by Rachel Childs
  • 12 students in Nuclear Medicine Technology, presented by Program Director Sara Maynard

Students also took their professional oaths before the presentation of several scholarships. Angeliquie Ragland, who helped establish the Scott Sechrist Endowed Scholarship, sent her congratulations in her absence.

In a lighthearted conclusion to the formal program, students were recognized with superlatives such as 鈥淢ost Likely to Be Social Media Famous鈥 and 鈥淢ost Likely to Contaminate Their Shoes.鈥 A lively reception followed, where students celebrated alongside proud family and friends.
