Our Strategic Communication and Journalism major will provide instruction and hands-on practice in career-focused skills across the spectrum of communication, media, public relations, and social media. Students will work as strategic communication professionals with real clients, or as student journalists with real story subjects, learning and practicing an array of industry standard practices, such as market research, strategic media design, podcasting, and broadcast journalism. Our classes teach and hone critical career skills which can easily transition into in-demand positions with almost any company or organization in the world.
Students in Strategic Communication and Journalism will choose one of two 鈥渟pecializations鈥 for study 鈥 either Strategic Communication or Journalism and Public Information. However, the program鈥檚 up-to-date curriculum and ample practical experience opportunities will help prepare students for any career across this spectrum of communication.

Among many professional skills gained, students will learn how to:

- Pitch and present ideas to a client or a boss
- Write and create media, ranging from social media to graphics to film
- Conduct meaningful research to generate strategy and objectives for a client
- Learn and practice skills of journalism across multiple disciplines, from writing for newspapers and the Web, to evolving broadcast platforms
- Learn and refine skills at the junction of journalism and media relations, to prepare for work in a dynamic media environment
